Feb. 09--A Byron woman was critically hurt late Tuesday night when she drove into the side of a train at the Ga. 49 tracks near Peacock Auto Salvage in Jones County.
Rochely Terron, 39, was traveling southbound toward Macon when she encountered a train pulling into the rock quarry and slammed head-on into two train cars where they join together, said Capt. James Clark of the Jones County Sheriff's Office.
"Evidently she didn't see it, because the lights were working," Clark said.
There are flashing warning lights on either side of the road and overhead, he said.
Jones County volunteer firefighters cut her from her mangled 2010 Kia Soul.
She was reported to be in critical condition late Wednesday afternoon at The Medical Center of Central Georgia where she was taken shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday.
