Feb. 11--An explosion blew a manhole cover off Saturday in southwest Oklahoma City near Will Rogers World Airport.

About 9:15 a.m., Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to a call about an explosion at 6425 S Eddie Ave.

"An electrical transformer blew up and blew the manhole cover lid off," said fire Deputy Chief Marc Woodard.

There were no injuries to fire personnel in the area, he said.

Kathleen O'Shea, a spokeswoman for Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co., said workers with the Federal Aviation Administration were switching out equipment near Will Rogers World Airport when the explosion occurred, taking out one of the electric company's circuits.

The FAA owns the equipment that caused the explosion and runs it run out of an OG&E substation, O'Shea said.

OG&E sent workers to the area for repairs. Customers were not affected, she said.
