HINTON, W.Va. -- An elderly woman was rescued from her burning home Monday in Hinton, according to the Hinton Fire Department.

Chief Ray Pivont said firefighter Jason Grose was returning to the station after his lunch break when he noticed smoke coming from the home.

He went into action, going in through the front door to find an elderly woman on the floor nearby. Pivont said she had inhaled smoke and she was unable to get out.

Grose carried her out and she was transported to Summers County ARH where for overnight observation, Pivont added.

The fire was contained to three rooms, the chief explained. However, the home suffered substantial smoke and water damage and Pivont said it is uninhabitable.

The chief said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. No other injuries were reported.
