A shooting spawned a police pursuit Wednesday night that ended with a collision with a fire truck, authorities said.
One suspected gunman died at the scene, another person was hospitalized in critical condition and two firefighters sustained minor injuries.
About 9:15 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department gang officers responded to gunfire in the 500 block of West Colden Avenue, said Officer Jack Richter. A chase began after officers spotted a black van believed to be driven by two suspected shooters.
About two minutes later, the van struck a Los Angeles Fire Department truck near the intersection of 84th and Main streets, said fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The van caught fire, and both occupants had to be extricated. The fire truck had arrived at the intersection just moments earlier for a medical call.
Two Los Angeles firefighters sustained non-life threatening injuries and were also hospitalized, Humphrey said.
The condition of the person shot in West Colden Avenue was not immediately available.
