BEIJING (AP) -- A forest fire in southern China killed six firefighters when shifting winds swept flames in their direction, a news report said Tuesday.

Eight other firefighters were injured in the disaster Monday on Jiujing Mountain in Guangdong province, which borders Hong Kong, the official Xinhua New Agency said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

It was extinguished at 7:30 p.m. (1130 GMT) on Monday after scorching 46.7 hectares (116 acres) of forest, Xinhua said.
