MI Fire Chief Dies of COVID after Almost Month in Hospital

A longtime Michigan fire chief died from COVID-19 in late December after battling the virus for nearly a month, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Grant Township Fire Chief Roland Brooks, 82, was taken to the hospital in Muskegon on Dec. 5, the USFA said in an alert Wednesday. He passed away Dec. 20.

Brooks had been with the Grant Township Fire Department for 56 years, Oceana's Herald-Journal reports. He served as chief for 40 years and was in charge of the department at the time of his death.

Brooks is survived by his wife, Joan, and has four children.
