Veteran CA Firefighter Succumbs to COVID-19

Firefighter/Paramedic Matthew “Bear” Michael Rominger with the Mountain Warfare Fire Department in Bridgeport died from COVID-19 complications on May 16.

The line-of-duty death of a California firefighter/paramedic who passed away from COVID-19 two months ago has officially been announced.

The U.S. Fire Administration said in a release Friday that Mountain Warfare Fire Department firefighter/paramedic Matthew “Bear” Michael Rominger died on May 16 after contracting the deadly virus in early April from a patient with a known infection. The Mountain Warfare FD is located in Bridgeport, CA.

Rominger, 48, was a member of the fire and emergency services for three decades, according to the USFA.

No other details in his passing were available.
