Fire Officer Dies on NJ Hazmat Callout

Middlesex County Hazardous Materials Team Lt. Donald J. Trout died Friday responding to a call involving an overturned tractor-trailer.

A Middlesex County fire lieutenant died Friday after being dispatched to an overturned tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Firefighters were called to the truck lanes of the turnpike at Exit 8A in Monroe Township around 6:30 a.m. where a truck hauling paint rolled over and spilled product, according to News12.com.

In a post on the Middlesex County Firefighters Association/IAFF Local 3451 Facebook page, they announced that Lt.  Donald J. Trout died while responding to the call. Trout served with the Middlesex County Hazmat Unit since 2002 and was recently named training officer.

He once served as president of Local 3451 and and was also a team supervisor.
