AR Fire Lieutenant Dies of COVID-19 Complications

North Little Rock Fire Department Lt. Scott Chassells, a 22-year fire service veteran, died Saturday after battling the deadly virus for about a month.

A veteran Arkansas firefighter has died of COVID-19 complications after battling the deadly virus for a month.

The U.S. Fire Administration on Thursday announced the line-of-duty death of North Little Rock Fire Department Lt. Scott Chassells, 48, who died last Saturday.

According to USFA, Lt. Chassells was dispatched on multiple medical runs for COVID-19 positive patients and others showing symptoms last month and is believed to have contracted the virus around Aug. 15.

"Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers," North Little Rock Fire Chief Gerald Tucker said in a Facebook post. "Please be there for each other in these hard times. Together we can stay stronger. R.I.P. Scott my brother. We’ll take it from here.”
