Layla Bradley, a contract firefighter from Wyoming, suffered a medical emergency during a wildfire deployment at Inyo National Forest.

A contract firefighter from Powell, WY, died while working a fire at Inyo National Forest in California earlier this month.

Layla Bradley, 29, who worked for Dragon Fighters Inc., suffered a medical emergency on Oct. 11.

Her sister, Sierra Bradley-Warfel, told the Cody Enterprise that Bradley had been feeling ill and was found unresponsive by her colleagues.

Crews attempted to save Bradley, but were unable to, according to Cowboy State Daily.

Her family is awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Bradley joined Clark, WY-based Dragon Fighters, Inc. in 2018 and became an engine boss.

"A lot of people’s homes and businesses were saved because of her efforts,” said Mike Specht, owner of Dragon Fighters, who said he's received messages from many people about Bradley's impact on their lives.

“She was just totally into it,” said Bradley-Warfel.

Bradley's father passed away earlier this year and she and her girlfriend, Victoria Zupko, had been talking about marriage, her family said.
