Central MI Fire Chief Dies of COVID Complications

A fire chief in central Michigan has died after coming into contact with a COVID-positive patient nearly a month ago.

The U.S. Fire Administration on Wednesday announced the line-of-duty death of Morley Area Fire and Rescue Chief Danny L. Deyo, 73, who passed away from COVID-19 complications on Nov. 6.

According to USFA, Chief Deyo was on a medical run on Oct. 12 that involved a patient with a known COVID case, and the 53-year fire service veteran subsequently contracted the virus and developed serious symptoms.

"Our condolences to Chief Deyo’s family, friends, coworkers, and all of the community that he selflessly served for over 53 years," Morley Area Fire and Rescue said in a Facebook post announcing the chief's passing.
