NC Captain Dies after Suffering a Medical Emergency

LaGrange Fire Department Captain David Holmes suffered a fatal medical emergency while operating at a brush fire.

On Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022, LaGrange Fire Department Captain David Holmes responded to the scene of a brush fire, while operating at the incident he experienced breathing problems.

Captain Holmes was immediately transported to the hospital where he was placed on life support. He was then moved to the Cape Fear Hospital where he was removed from life support on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022.

The nature of his death was a massive heart attack. Captain Holmes was the former Fire Chief of the LaGrange Fire Department from 2000 through 2010, according to a press release from the U.S. Fire Administration.

David Holmes, Pumper, as he was known to most of our staff, served his community as a volunteer firefighter and earned his way up the ranks to Fire Chief of LaGrange Fire Department.   After he retired from the Fire Department, he was elected to the LaGrange Town Council.  He loved the LaGrange community, and he loved his family, Lenoir County Sheriff Ronnie Ingram said in a Facebook post.
