VA Fire Captain Passes from Work-Related Cancer

Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Captain Kimberly Schoppa has died after a battle with work-related cancer.

The Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department announced the passing of Captain Kimberly Schoppa on April 26, after her battle with occupational cancer.

Schoppa was a member of the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department for 18 years and was assigned to Fire Station 27 in West Springfield.

She served as a member of the department’s Honor Guard and is remembered as a valued friend and esteemed member of the department, the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department said in a press release.

"There is no doubt Captain Schoppa touched many lives throughout her career and will be remembered as a kind, caring and compassionate person. She was an exceptional leader, mentor, and friend. She will be greatly missed."
