PA Firefighters Break In to Home to Warn Resident of Porch Fire
Firefighters forced their way into a Pike Township home early Monday after a passer-by reported the porch was on fire.
Fire crews responded within minutes of the 2:48 a.m. alarm for 531 Oysterdale Road and quickly put out the flames that engulfed the porch, said Lt. Tyler Kline of Oley Fire Company.
The home is between Marburger and Mine roads.
Based on reports that the home was occupied, firefighters broke in and alerted the homeowner, who was unaware his porch was on fire.
“We made a good knock on the fire, and it never made its way into the house,” said Kline, who did not release the homeowner's name.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The homeowner indicated he had been burning trash the previous night, but there was heavy rainfall when the motorist saw the flames.
Damage was contained mostly to the all-wood porch, which was destroyed. A damage estimate was unavailable.
“Luckly, because of the way it is built, the house stood up pretty well,” Kline said.
The homeowner was able to return to the home after fire crews cleared the scene, he said.
