Lloyd Musick, a volunteer firefighter from Summit Hill, died after a minivan hit him while he was trying to help those involved in a previous accident in New Tripoli.

An off-duty Pennsylvania volunteer firefighter died after he was hit by a minivan while helping at an accident scene Tuesday.

Lloyd Musick, 49, of Summit Hill in Carbon County, was among a group of passersby who stopped after 5:30 p.m. to give assistance to people involved in a two-vehicle crash along Route 309 in New Tripoli in Lehigh County, WNEP-TV reports. That's when Musick and two other people were hit by a minivan.

Musick was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he later died from multiple blunt force trauma, according to Lehigh Valley Live. Another person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries from the minivan accident, while a third suffered minor injuries. Police and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office are continuing to investigate the incident.

Musick's daughter, Kaitlyn, has started a GoFundMe campaign to help her family pay for funeral expenses. As of Thursday morning, the fundraiser had generated more than $11,000, exceeding its goal of $10,000.

"He died helping someone he didn't even know," Kaitlyn Musick wrote on the GoFundMe page. "He was a firefighter, a husband, a father, a brother, a friend to anyone who needed one, and a proud pappy. He was such a caring man with a big sense of humor. … My father died a hero."
