A Farmington fire lieutenant has died in a motorcycle crash in Litchfield.

David Barr, 24, of Burlington died early Saturday, state police said.

Barr was riding a 1984 Harley-Davidson south on Thomaston Road about 5:45 a.m. when he lost control near Iffland Pond Road. He struck two traffic signs and the side of a pet supply store, state police said.

Barr was a member of the Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 in Farmington, the fire company said in a Facebook post later that day. Firefighters from different parts of the state offered their condolences.

One writer said Barr was a “really, really great guy.”

Another said she was devastated to hear the news.

“Dave was such a great person from a great family,” she said. He had "so much more to give and this is just heartbreaking. He will be greatly missed.”

Barr was an HVAC tech who graduated from E.C. Goodwin Technical High School in New Britain, according to his Facebook page.

Litchfield Resident Trooper James Holm continues to investigate the crash, state police said.
