Historic Boston Call Box Used During 9-1-1 Outage

An Endicott Street resident called in smoke in the area, which turned out to be a fire, with a call box that dates to 1852.

Boston residents took to the streets and used a fire call box to report an early morning fire during the nationwide 9-1-1 outage.

According to NBC 10 News, an Endicott Street resident used a call box at 5:14 am to report smoke in the area.

Firefighters responded and found a building fire which was quickly extinguished, Boston Fire reported. There were no injuries.

Boston Fire said its fire box alarm system has been operational since 1852.
