Seneca Falls police said a Junius volunteer firefighter hit another vehicle while responding to a call, but his apparatus wasn't properly equipped at the time.

A New York volunteer firefighter is being blamed for an apparatus accident last week.

Seneca Falls police claim Junius firefighter Joseph Zehr, 24, failed to stop for a red light while responding to a call and hit a vehicle just before 6 p.m. Thursday, WROC-TV reports. A passenger in the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators determined that Zehr's vehicle didn't have the proper emergency equipment and only had a single, forward-facing red warning light, according to WROC. His apparatus wasn't equipped 360 warning lights or a siren, which both are state requirements.

Charges are pending in the incident, the TV station added.
