Out-of-Service FDNY Apparatus Catches Fire on Bridge

The FDNY apparatus was returning from a repair shop and headed to Brooklyn on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge when the fire broke out in the rig.

An out-of-service FDNY apparatus caught fire while heading to Brooklyn on Wednesday.

The rig was traveling on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge that connects Staten Island and Brooklyn shortly after 3 p.m., the Staten Island Advance reports. It was on its way back from a department repair shop when the fire broke out.

An all-hands response was issued by the department, and the blaze was put out just before 4 p.m. No one was injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
