APACHE-SITGREAVES NATIONAL FOREST, AZ, JUNE 10, 2011 – The “Wallow Fire” became the largest in state history, burning 527,774 acres 23 miles southwest of Alpine. Structures were threatened and evacuations were in effect. Nationwide, from Jan 1 through June 22, there were 34,490 wildland fires nationwide that burned 4,551,039 acres, far above the average year.
LOS ANGELES, CA, MAY 12, 2011 – Los Angeles Fire Department and Angeles National Forest firefighters worked a four-acre brushfire in the Shadow Hills area. Angeles National Forest units responded as per Initial Action Zone. Nine companies of LAFD firefighters and units from the Angeles National Forest, along with two water-dropping helicopters, contained the slow-moving fire in about an hour with no injuries.
MASPETH, NY, MAY 2, 2011 – A five-alarm fire ripped through a large taxpayer housing a restaurant. Units were directed to go to a defensive attack.
