Firehouse Expo, the NVFC National Junior Firefighter Program, Spartan Motors Inc. and California Casualty have teamed up to provide a course specially developed for junior firefighters.

This is the first time such a program has been scheduled for the annual conference held in Baltimore.

The National Junior Firefighter Academy will be held on July 24 with courses running from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The program features two sessions -- one targeted for junior firefighters and the other for junior firefighter program advisors and will each have courses running concurrently.

The session for junior firefighters is open to youth ages 13 to 18 and will cover topics such as youth leadership, future paths in the fire service, and youth-led activity ideas.

The session for junior firefighter program advisors will focus on serving as a youth mentor, applying for SAFER grants to fund junior firefighter programs, and activity ideas, among other subjects.
