Firehouse presents recent fires from around the country

Passaic, NJ, April 15, 2017—Crews responded to a fast-moving fire in that extended into the cockloft of a multi-story apartment house. Firefighters had knocked down the fire in the apartment, but reported that they believed fire was above them. Truck company members performed trench cuts, but flames were already moving passed them. A defensive operation was eventually established, and included four ladder pipes, two tower ladders and three deck guns.

Chicago, IL, April 16, 2017—Upon arrival a fire in a duplex-style occupied building on the southeast side, crews performed a search of the structure, and a snorkel and tower ladder were put in service. Structural conditions resulted in a partial collapse, forcing a defensive operation. Interestingly, in this part of the city, sidewalks are raised, meaning a first-floor fire essentially becomes a basement fire.

Grand Prairie firefighters arrived on the scene of the second fire to find heavy smoke and flames coming out of the roof of the two-story house.
