Reaching the Masses with Social Media

One of the most exciting things about technology is that you can reach more people faster with the fire safety message. In one of my previous posts, I shared how exciting it was that Facebook was opening up doors.

About a year ago, I started playing with the idea of live streaming a fire safety show. 15 episodes later, Sparkles' Safety Spot has reached thousands of children and their caregivers. Whether you share fire prevention on your department or organization's webpage, blog or Facebook page, social media is a great way to reach people.

On Monday, Tango and I had the opportunity to live stream from the Memphis Fire Department in Memphis, Tennessee. What a wonderful evening! It was Jeff Huddleston's first time to co-host a fire safety live stream with Tango and I, and we had a blast!

Whether you are a new educator looking for ideas for fire safety tips to share with your community or looking for a resource to share, please feel free to use this video in any way that you would like. My goal as an educator has always been to help other educators, as I have been (and still continue to be) helped and want to give back.

Do you have a social media site that you would like to share? We'd love to hear about it! Please send me a note at[email protected] and we will share it in a future post on the "Playing it Safe" blog on firehouse.com!

Until next time, stay safe!
