The bond between the Myrtle Beach golf community and the FDNY has been a source of great pride for GolfTown, USA. Tens of thousands of first responders have vacationed along the Grand Strand, but in the aftermath of the 9-11 terror attacks, that kinship grew even stronger.
In the 11 years since the attacks, more than 7,000 firefighters have come to Myrtle Beach for an annual event that has grown into the Myrtle Beach Never Forgets Memorial Golf Outing (MBNFMGO), a four-day extravaganza of golf and good times.
More than 20 Myrtle Beach area golf courses host the event, including some of the area’s best and most prominent layouts.
The Myrtle Beach Never Forgets Outing doesn’t end when the final putt drops each day. There are nightly happy hours, daily competitions and finally THE MAIN EVENT on Wednesday, which features a golf tournament and the always popular belly flop contest and oceanfront cookout (free steak and beer – what’s not to like?)!
The combination of firefighters and Myrtle Beach guarantees an unforgettable outing, but it’s also a time to reflect on brothers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and raise money for our charity of choice, the Firefighters Cancer Support Network.
The FCSN is a grass root organization to help firefighters. Their mission is to provide fire department members and their families an opportunity to receive assistance when dealing with cancer. They also offer education to every fire firefighter regarding the importance of cancer
screening and early detection. They promote awareness that cancer does not have to be dealt with alone; together we can make a difference.
