ATLANTA

--

Atlanta Police said there are no obvious signs of trauma on the body that was dumped in front of Atlanta Fire Station 29.

Homicide detectives were called to a fire station in the 2100 block of Monroe in Northeast Atlanta, after a body was found in the driveway. Investigators said it was dumped there around 9am Sunday.

Officials said fire fighters tried to revive the man who appeared to be in his 20’s, but they were unsuccessful.

Fires in modern residential homes have become the most dangerous fires to fight, according to research presented last week at Firehouse World in San Diego.

The workshop was presented by Battalion Chief Peter VanDorpe and Firefighter/EMT James Dalton, both of the Chicago Fire Department and partners of Underwriters Laboratories.

As a firefighter in Parker, Colo., Quinn MacLeod always had a particular reaction upon reading a new line of duty death announcement, he said. He noticed that they are usually attributed to just a few different causes, and wondered, "Why do we keep doing this over and over? Why do we keep making the same mistakes?"

The American Heart Association is expected to release new guidelines later in 2010, and agencies should prepare themselves now for the potential impacts, according to Joshua Stapleton, Fire Capt./Paramedic and an EMS Representative for the AHA Regional Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee.

Preparation was the main theme pushed by LAFD Battalion Chief Joseph Castro at his Firehouse World presentation on the Metrolink/Union Pacific train collision of Sept. 12, 2008.

Firehouse World 2010 officially opened Tuesday at the San Diego, Calif. Convention Center along with the Calif. State Firefighters Association's annual conference.
