GA Firefighter Dies after Falling Ill at End of Shift

A Fort Benning firefighter died days after he fell ill at the end of his shift.

Gregory Jackson, 50, was transported to the hospital on April 14 after reportedly not feeling well.

He died on April 19, according to a release from the U.S. Fire Administration.

The nature and cause of his death have not been reported.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart we announce the passing of one of our very own," the fire department posted on their Facebook page. "FF Greg Jackson who is our friend, fellow firefighter, and has been a member our department since 2004 passed away. He will truly be missed.

The funeral will be held April 27 at 12 p.m. at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, with a procession to the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. 

The Fort Benning Fire Department protects the U.S. Army base located just east of Columbus, GA.
