MO Firefighter Dies after Medical Emergency at Fire Call

Independence firefighter David F. Jameson Jr., reported feeling short of breath and then became unresponsive while at the scene of a residential fire Thursday.

A Missouri firefighter died after suffering a medical emergency during a fire call Thursday.

Independence firefighter and hazmat technician David F. Jameson Jr., was responding to a call of a residential fire, and he began feeling shortness of breath once he reached the scene, the city announced in an online update. Jameson, 52, stayed in the apparatus while the other firefighters dealt with the blaze.

When the other firefighters returned to the apparatus, they found Jameson unresponsive. Medical care was immediately started on Jameson, and he was taken in critical condition to Centerpoint Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Jameson had been with the Independence Fire Department for 23 years, according to the department. He was the father of 10 children and is survived by his mother, grandmother, two brothers and two sisters.
