Firefighters from Houston, TX, Engine 15 prepare to put the first water on a fully involved detached garage in the Heights section of the city. The late-afternoon fire destroyed the occupied all-wood garage and damaged two exposures. The fire occurred on Dec. 17, 2010, and required the response of five engine and two ladder companies.

Dedication: This month’s Firehouse® is dedicated to Captain Jim Duane Niles, 59, of the Downs, KS, Fire Department; Lieutenant Patrick Hannon, 51, of the Chicago, IL, Fire Department; Firefighter/Paramedic Harold Frey, 46, of the Sandown, NH, Fire and Rescue Department; Firefighter William Henry Quick, 55, of the FDNY; Firefighter Mark G. Falkenhan, 43, of the Baltimore County, MD, Fire Department/Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company; Captain Leslie “Les” Clark, 80, of the Dixon, MO, Rural Fire Protection District; Firefighter Recruit David Eason, 38, of the West Memphis, AR, Fire Department; Firefighter Antonio E. Jones, 44, of the Augusta, GA, Fire Department; and Chief James Walters Sr., 57, of the Parkton, NC, Volunteer Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, January 2011.
