MONTEREY COUNTY, CA, MAY 30, 2011 –The U.S. Forest Service, three air tankers, three helicopters, 10 engines, a dozer and several hand crews attacked a fire that involved 500 acres of grass and brush near homes outside San Ardo. First-arriving units found a downed power line had spread flames into the grass, with 30 acres of fire being pushed by strong winds. Before the afternoon was over, 500 acres were consumed and the incident commander reported the potential for 5,000 acres if the strong winds did not cease. By 6:45 P.M., the 50-mph winds did subside, letting firefighting resources corral the fire.

CONTINENTAL GIRBAU INC. has released the highly programmable Logi Pro Control, now available on the 20-pound capacity E-Series washers and the complete line-up of M-Series washer-extractors for fire departments and other applications. The control offers up to 25 individually modifiable programs – each with up to 11 baths, including multiple pre-wash, wash and rinse phases. It features up to six programmable water levels; a delayed start and rinse option; overnight soak; cycle lockout; variable wash action; programmable extract speeds, including zero rotation; temperature controlled fill up to 194 degrees; and timed chemical dosing by the second. Additionally, it incorporates an all-new water and chemical adjustment feature. The user simply selects the size of the load – quarter load, half load, three-quarter load or full load. The control will automatically adjust the amount of water and chemicals according to the selected load size.

KME has introduced the Predator chassis family, featured in rescue pumper, aerial and rescue configurations. The chassis are available in 4x2, 6x6 and all-wheel-drive configurations with a full range of engine options from Cummins and MaxxForce in 300 to 600 hp. The cabs include KME’s TOP (Total Occupant Protection), which deploys within a quarter of a second to help protect firefighters by pre-tensioning the seat belts, lowering air seats to the safest position, and engaging airbag cushions and/or engaging a steering wheel airbag to protect the head and neck of the driver, while inflating a knee bolster airbag to protect the first officer’s knees. The cab is available in 96- and 100-inch widths and features a large-capacity HVAC system with enhanced fan output and a newly designed interior package.
