Firefighters from FDNY Ladder 48 removed a woman and a handicapped man from an apartment above the fire in an occupied multiple dwelling. The fast-moving, five-alarm blaze spread to adjacent exposures. The fire occurred in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx on March 9, 2011.

Dare, 52, of the Avon, IL, Fire Protection District; Chief Richard Leo Barbour, 55, of Wilson's Mills Fire and Rescue in Smithfield, NC; Airman First Class Derek Kozorosky of Kadena Air Base in Japan; and Firefighter Joshua Wilkes, 26, of the Unity Fire Department in Guntown, MS, who died in the line of duty, February 2011.
