Eight New Jersey firefighters were taken to a hospital Monday morning after a fire triggered a gas explosion in the basement of a Pennsauken home.

Five of the firefighters were treated at Cooper University Hospital in Camden and released, Fire Chief Joseph Palumbo told Philly.com reporters.

Three other firefighters were being evaluated for non-life threatening injuries.

Crews were putting a line into the basement when a buildup of gas exploded, Palumbo explained.

The residents got out unharmed.

The cause remains under investigation.
