Fire Lumberton volunteer firefighters were injured after their pumper truck rolled over while they were returning from a call Wednesday night, according to The Burlington County Times.

The crew left the scene of a minor crash on Route 38 shortly after 7:30 p.m. and was traveling on Smithville Road when the apparatus veered off the road to avoid an oncoming car.

The pumper ended up on its side in a ditch and struck several trees.

The roof of the apparatus was ripped off during the crash and all five firefighters were transported to Virtua Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the oncoming car kept driving and is not considered to be at fault, Burlington County Fire Coordinator David Constantine told the newspaper.

Heavy rains were pounding the area at the time of the crash, but the cause is still under investigation.
