GASTON COUNTY, N.C. --

A Crowders Fire and Rescue fire truck was involved in an accident in Gaston County Friday morning, officials said.

The accident happened at Crowder’s Creek Road and York Highway, just inside across the state line.

The volunteer firefighters in the truck were returning from a call for help when the accident happened, officials said. Two of the firefighters were injured, but were both conscious, talking and alert when medical personnel arrived.

Officials said neither firefighter had serious injuries, but were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. The driver of the pick-up truck had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

State troopers said the person driving a silver pick-up truck failed to stop at a red light and crashed into the fire truck. The driver of the pick-up truck will be charged with failure to stop at a red light, troopers said.

His name has not yet been released.

The roadway reopened around 12:45 p.m.
