Illinois Crews Respond to Fiery Train Derailment

Firefighters responded to a fiery freight train derailment in Bartlett Thursday morning, according to WFLD-TV.

Crews responded after the derailment occurred around 5:30 a.m. in an industrial area.

Three rail cars -- one carrying fiberboard, one carrying scrap metal, and another that was empty -- were involved in the incident.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Witnesses told the news station that a number of cars had derailed and several of them were on fire.

At least one rail car contained acid and another sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda or lye, according to the report.

The car carrying the hazardous materials was not reported to be on fire and no evacuations were made.

Elgin and Bartlett firefighters were on the scene along with railroad investigators.
