LA VISTA, Neb. --

Two people were killed when the SUV they were in slammed into a La Vista home early Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Park View Boulevard and Lillian Avenue about 1 a.m.

Police said a man and a woman in a Jeep were speeding down Lillian Avenue, ran a stop sign, jumped curb and hit the vacant house.

The driver, Melissa Hayes, 34, and the passenger, Robbie Deamon, 37, cousins from Las Vegas, died at the scene, investigators said. The two, originally from Omaha, had just moved back to town, according to authorities.

Firefighters had a tough time getting the bodies out of the wreckage.

Investigators said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the accident. According to police, empty liquor bottles were found in the car after the crash.

Police said the house was being renovated, and its foundation was severely damaged by the impact.
