OLATHE, Kan. --

Olathe firefighters battled a four-alarm fire at the Days Inn motel in the 200 block of North Rawhide Drive on Thursday morning.

The fire was reported about 9:20 a.m. Arriving fire crews reported fire on the second floor, extending into the upper portion of the building.

"The incident commander at the time called for a second alarm. That ensures that we get more units to this just because of the nature of this building and because it's such a big building that could be occupied, we needed to make sure that we had enough units, enough firefighters on the scene in case we needed to get people out," said Olathe Deputy Fire Chief Todd Hart.

Authorities called two more alarms, bringing additional crews to the scene.

There were 20 occupied rooms at the motel. Motel staff and firefighters checked every room to make sure everyone got out.

One person was treated for minor smoke inhalation, but did not need to go to the hospital.

Dozens of firefighters remained at the scene knocking down hot spots. KMBC's Peggy Breit reported that a preliminary investigation reveals that the fire may have started in a storage room on the second floor.

Fire crews from Overland Park, Shawnee, Lenexa helped Olathe battle the fire.
