LOUISVILLE, Ky. --

A mother and her child were rushed to a hospital following an apartment fire in Lyndon early Saturday morning.

Firefighters said the fire started at the Kingswood Apartment Complex in the 7600 block of Westport Road at about 3:30 a.m.

Fire officials said the woman and child were rescued from a second floor and were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"Well the guys just laddered the window, the mother was at the window, they helped her down and she said, 'My child's still in there,' so they went back in and found the child and brought her out," Lyndon Fire and Rescue Chief Russ Rakestraw said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
