Two fire paramedics, a patient and a motorist were injured when an ambulance and a minivan collided on Scholls Ferry Road in Beaverton.

The driver of the minivan was severely entrapped and was extricated by firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue. After being extricated, the minivan driver was taken by medical helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University and Medical Center in Portland with life-threatening injuries.

The two medics in the ambulance from the Newburg (Ore.) Fire Department and the patient they were transporting were treated on the scene by TVF&R personnel and were taken to local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Units first arriving on the scene at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday recognized the severity of the accident and quickly asked for a third-alarm medical response, summoning additional resources to the scene.

Multiple Metro West ambulance units and public safety agencies also assisted on scene. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the crash.
