Firefighters said welders working outside Sykes Enterprises, located at 4600 Towson Ave., sparked a fire that destroyed a storage area Friday morning.

Sykes operates a call center for several business across the country.

The storage area was full of plastic equipment. Firefighters said there is a wall separating the storage area from the call center. Chief Mike Richards said that wall may have saved the call center.

A captain and two other firefighters were sent to a hospital. Two of the victims suffered from heat exhaustion and the other is being treated for steam burns. Richards said the injuries are not serious.
