Anne Arundel County fire officials said one person died and one woman was seriously injured Saturday in a two-alarm house fire.

Firefighters said the fire broke out just after 1:30 p.m. inside the 1300 block of Shore Drive in Edgewater.

When crews arrived at the scene, they said heavy smoke was coming from a single-family home.

After crews gained entry into the home, officials said one victim was found inside.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.

A woman, who fire officials said was in her late 60s or early 70s, was rescued from the house.

Crews said the woman was flown to the burn unit of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore with serious life-threatening injuries.

The fire did significant damage, and officials said about 60 firefighters responded to the scene, including crews from Anne Arundel County, the city of Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy.

Fire crews said it took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
