--
North Las Vegas firefighters rushed to a blaze at a recycling plant Thursday night, one that forced worried residents out of their homes looking for the source of thick plumes of smoke filling the skies.
The fire started at about 6:40 p.m. at the facility near Cheyenne Avenue and Commerce Street, according to fire officials.
Damage is estimated at $2 million, officials said.
The blaze was sparked by improper disposal of smoking materials, officials said.
