Driver Killed in Collision With N.C. Fire Truck

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The driver of a car died Sunday afternoon after pulling out in front of a fire truck that was responding to a call, Kernersville police said. Police said the crash happened in the 600 block of South Cherry Street at about 12:30 p.m. According to the News and Record, John William Hack, 80, and his wife, were headed home from Mass. The collision sent Hack's car into a storage building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the crash happened in the 600 block of South Cherry Street at about 12:30 p.m.

According to the News and Record, John William Hack, 80, and his wife, were headed home from Mass.

The collision sent Hack's car into a storage building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries, police said.

Police said the highway patrol will be conducting an independent investigation of the crash.
