The Picadilly Circus was in town for a scheduled date in hard-hit Joplin, Mo. Sunday, and while deadly tornadoes canceled the show, its crew made an appearance at a local hospital and lent a hand in cleanup efforts.

WDAF-TV was on the scene as one of the Picadilly Elephants was used to move a wrecked car left by the destruction.

While some residents were entertained by the spectacle, others thought it was inappropriate.

"I think the circus people generally want to help, but I think this a bad idea," one woman said.

One man spoke out in support of the circus' actions, saying he didn't see it as a publicity stunt.

"If you're unappreciative of the work and you don't work here or live here," he said, "maybe you should go somewhere else to help where you're not going to sit here and complain."
