OMAHA, Neb. --

Dozens of people are without a home after a fire destroyed an apartment building near 72nd and Harrison streets on Friday.

Authorities said there was some confusion about jurisdiction when the call first came in around 2:40 p.m.

Omaha Fire responded first, then Ralston Fire was dispatched about 20 minutes later.

Officials said the fire started in one unit and then got out of control, taking over the entire building. That building was destroyed, while two nearby buildings suffered damage to shingles.

Firefighters said strong winds were a major issue in battling the flames.
