Conn. Firefighter Collapses, Dies at Fire Scene

The fire department in Windsor was mourning the loss of one of their own Tuesday, after a volunteer firefighter died Monday night while responding to an emergency call.
WINDSOR, Conn. --

The fire department in Windsor was mourning the loss of one of their own Tuesday, after a volunteer firefighter died Monday night while charging a hydrant at a fire scene.

Robert Dean Watts, 51, was a 30-year veteran of the fire service, according to the USFA.

Fire Chief Bill Lewis told Eyewitness News that Watts was working to charge a hydrant when he suddenly collapsed. He was then rushed to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he was pronounced dead.

He was a volunteer in Windsor for eight years. He also was a member of Manchester 8th Utilities Fire District, the USFA reported.

A cause of death is under investigation. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
