VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. --
An 85 acre wildfire threatened nearly a dozen homes on Kicklighter Road in Lake Helen Tuesday night.
Residents who live in the area were not asked to leave as of Tuesday night, but some decided to get ready just in case.
“We just have stuff packed in the car. We have all the stuff we would need if we needed to get out right away,” said homeowner Heather Dorton.
Some residents used water hoses to help prevent flying embers from catching any homes on fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
At last check, the fire was about 60 percent contained.
