One of the firefighters suffered burns to a hand through one of his gloves as it hit a metal railing as he was advancing the line when he fell, according to a press release from the department.

The conditions inside the blaze were intense and caused two other firefighters to sustain minor burns to their ears, neck and hands.

All of the injured firefighters were evaluated by paramedics and returned to duty.

Crews responded to the apartment building in the 2600 block of East 56th Street at approximately 1:19 p.m. and found a second story unit fully involved.
