Two Taken to Hospitals After Mo. House Explodes

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Two people were taken to hospitals after a home near 12th Street and Holke Road exploded into flames on Thursday morning. Callers to 911 said they heard an explosion before the fire. Images from NewsChopper 9 showed that much of the home was destroyed by the fire. Debris from the home was also strewn all over the front yard.

Two people were taken to hospitals after a home near 12th Street and Holke Road exploded into flames on Thursday morning.

Callers to 911 said they heard an explosion before the fire.

Images from NewsChopper 9 showed that much of the home was destroyed by the fire. Debris from the home was also strewn all over the front yard.

An assistant fire chief told KMBC that a person passing by helped pull an older woman inside the home to safety. The passer-by and the woman were taken to hospitals to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
