SEASIDE, Ore. --

A Warrenton woman died after crashing into a fire truck on an icy section of Highway 26 near Seaside.

The crash happened Sunday morning after several other cars slid on the ice and crashed into a guard rail near the Saddle Mountain junction. Investigators say the Hamlet Fire Department fire truck was parked while responding to the crashes. They said that’s when Jessica Maclay, 30, spun out and smashed into the fire truck.

A Life Flight helicopter took Maclay to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, where she later died. Maclay’s husband was seated in the passenger seat and received minor injuries, troopers say. He was taken to an Astoria hospital.

The couple’s 8-month-old daughter was in an infant seat in the back and was not injured.

Six other drivers lost control on that same icy section of the highway.

Police say a volunteer firefighter seated in the fire truck was not hurt.

Eastbound lanes of Highway 26 near milepost 12 were closed until about 3 p.m. while troopers from the Astoria Area Command office looked into the crash.
