Two Austin-Travis County EMS paramedics and a firefighter were injured Tuesday afternoon after their ambulance was involved in a crash while transporting a patient to a hospital, according to KVUE-TV.

The crew was only seconds away from the entrance to University Medical Center Brackenridge Hospital when it collided with a car at the intersection of 15th Street and the Southbound IH 35 frontage road at approximately 12:30 p.m.

"The patient being transported was being treated for a stroke," EMS commander Janelle Boone told the news station. "The two paramedics and one firefighter are being treated but are in stable condition."

The firefighter and paramedic in the back of the ambulance were not belted in while they worked on the patient.

The patient was securely fastened to the stretcher and was uninjured in the crash.

The lights and sirens on the ambulance were activated at the time of the collision.

Police are investigating the incident to determine who was at fault.
